Manual steps in Chrome OS
Before starting the manual USB creation process, you must download the .zip file that contains CloudReady. Start by downloading the CloudReady .zip file to your standard downloads folder, not the target USB device.
Under 'Google Chrome OS,' you'll find which version of the Chrome operating system your Chromebook uses. Select Check for updates. If your Chromebook finds a software update, it will start to download automatically. Note: If your Chromebook uses your phone's internet connection or its own mobile data, you'll get an alert about how much mobile. Remember that the Download directory is shared between Chrome OS and Ubuntu. However, other directories will not be accessible through the Files application in Chrome OS. You can switch between Chrome OS and Ubuntu using the key combinations Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Back and Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Forward. Chromium OS is the open-source equivalent of Chrome OS. In fact, the latter is derived from Chromium OS, and then Google adds its proprietary apps, including Gmail, Google Maps, Play Store, and more. If you don’t have a Chromebook yet, but would like to try features of Chrome OS, then test driving Chromium OS is an excellent way to start. Using a chromebook partitioned with linux wanted to remove linux by doing a full recovery. So downloaded this tool on my second chromebook that is not partitioned. Tried to create the recovery to no avail. Have tried every loop hole around this insanely incompetent and irrelevant OS. Stick to search engines from now on.

- CloudReady Home Users: If you are an individual user and don't need support or management, download the .zip file for our free Home Edition here.
Once downloaded the CloudReady image .zip file will be in your Files App, probably in your Downloads folder. The name will change depending on the version of CloudReady you've downloaded, but it should always end in '.bin.zip' as shown below.
Note: The rest of this guide assumes that you have downloaded your image and that it is in your Downloads folder.

Install and launch the Chromebook Recovery Utility
Download and add the Chromebook Recovery Utility extension to your Chrome browser:

You must have this extension installed to create a CloudReady installer.
1. Add Chrome Recovery Utility to Chrome: After clicking on the link above, you'll be brought to the following Chrome Web Store website; Singer 6136 manual.
- Click 'Add to Chrome' in the top right-hand corner.
2. Confirm & Install: On the Add 'Chrome Recovery Utility' prompt:

- Click 'Add app'
3. Launch: The Chromebook Recovery Utility will now be installed and will show up on the app drawer.
- Click on the Recovery icon as shown below.
Create the USB Installer
Note: As a general rule of thumb it is recommended to ensure the USB you are using has been formatted before continuing with the steps mentioned below. To format your USB using the Google Chrome Recovery Utility follow the steps mentioned here.
1. Initial Screen: Once launched, you should see the below screen.
2. Locate the gray gear icon on the top right of the window.
3. Browse for Local Image: Click the gray gear icon and choose Use local image and locate the cloudreadyXXXX.bin.zip file in your Downloads folder.
4. Insert USB device: When prompted, insert your 8 GB or larger USB flash drive and choose the corresponding drive on the screen.
Note:
-During the process, it is normal for the utility to show unusual percentages.

5. Process Complete: When the process is completed, remove the USB flash drive from your computer.
Congratulations, your USB flash drive is now a CloudReady installer and is ready to use!
